On Wednesday morning we celebrated harvest. Year Three led our celebration with a theme of thankfulness. The terrible fires on the moors this summer had captured their thoughts and they wanted to do something to let the firefighters know how grateful everyone is for the amazing work that led to the fires being completely extinguished after forty-one days of very hard work.
We watched a film that had been made to highlight the enormous effort that had gone into taming the fire and how the emergency services from around the area had worked together to prevent a disaster. The children have been raising money for the charity and one of our parents who was involved as a firefighter on the moors during the fire, has arranged for the three winning classes to visit his fire station in Accrington next half term.
One of the competitions was to make a card for the firefighters to send our thanks for their efforts. We had some superb entries with very derserving winners. Our Junior winner created a lovely card with a very heartfelt poem that she read out to everyone.
A really super assembly enjoyed by all thank you to Year Three and to Year Four for their support with the singing.
