Learning about Light

This week in Science with Mr. Beckett, Year Six started their new topic of Light. They discussed their existing knowledge of light, generated questions that they would like answered about light and debated how light travels.

The children then created and carried out their own investigation into how light travels by using a variety of materials and a torch to independently discover whether light travels in straight lines or whether it can bend. They identified light travelling in a straight line through a hole in the card and not bending to reach the other hole but then also used water to learn about refraction.

Every child entered into a strong debate about whether light travels in a straight line and used their knowledge of light in the world to argue their hypothesis.
