The Great Fire of London
Year One history topic this term is ‘The Great fire of London'.
The children learned that in 1666 a fire started in a bakery in Pudding Lane. The fire spread very quickly because the houses were made of wood and stood very close together.
There was no fire service at that time so the people had to fill leather buckets with water from the River Thames. This didn’t work very well so they escaped in boats across the river.
Large parts of London were destroyed including St Pauls Cathedral. The topic has been brought to life in Year 1 with a display of the children’s amazing art work and detailed models of London at the time of the fire. Great work!
