This week, as part of both our Science and English work, Year Two have written and followed some instructions to make their own slime! The children needed to work carefully and scientifically in order to get their slime recipe just right, but they also needed to get messy in the process.
Once the slime was made, the children investigated a number of different materials around the classroom, including their slime, testing whether materials could be twisted, bent, stretched and squashed. The slime was by far the most flexible and the most fun to work with!
The ingredients we used were much requested from children throughout the school, so please find here our recipe:
You will need:
- A mixing bowl
- PVA glue
- Bicarbonate of soda
- Gel food colouring
- Contact lens solution containing borax or boric acid
Method
You will first need to mix 1 cup of PVA glue with one teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in a large bowl. If you would like to add colours you need to use a gel food colouring at this point. After this, add around 1tablespoon of contact lens solution to the mixture and mix with your hand until it becomes a slime.
If you want to turn your slime into fluffy slime, just add shaving foam!
We hope you have fun making slime. If you're in doubt about what to do just ask one of the Year Two pupils, they're the experts after all!
