Our School

The Year 1 Geography topic for this term is ‘Our School’. The children have been using Google Earth to locate the school and identify roads and buildings around the area. This week the class have been learning about ‘aerial views’. The children had to spot the differences between a front facing London photograph and an aerial photograph of London. They then viewed an aerial plan of our classroom.

The objective was for the children to use their observational skills to create their own aerial plan  and highlight the key features. First they created a ‘Messy Map’ of the classroom working cooperatively in groups. A Messy Map is a 3D representation of a place/area using a variety of art and junk modelling materials, allowing pupil’s creativity to flow! This was then used to help them to draw an aerial plan of the classroom. They worked extremely hard and some excellent plans were produced. Well done Year 1!
