Education and Learning

Education and learning at one of the North-West’s most successful and inspiring independent primary schools

Like all GEMS managed schools, we consistently attain high standards of academic achievement. However we know that children need more than academic teaching to develop into exceptional adults.

GEMS schools embrace a philosophy of preparing children for the world and future challenges. So education at Clevelands, extends beyond the classroom to provide a wide range of extra curricular activities. These include sports, nature trips, arts and crafts and exploratory excursions that provide a well-rounded experience, and develop the children’s potential.

Our teachers are specialists in their fields and encourage children to participate, create and contribute. We encourage exploration, innovative problem solving, independent expression and decision-making. This helps children to become informed, confident and active learners with a strong sense of self.

Assembly is held daily, either within the classroom or as a collective group. Pupils of different denominations and faiths are encouraged to participate since we believe it strengthens the social, cultural and spiritual dimensions of the school.

We encourage team and individual competitiveness, so the children take part in numerous competitions and fixtures with other schools in all the main sports. These include football, cricket, cross-country, swimming, rounders, athletics, gymnastics, and netball.

That is why we are one of the most successful and inspiring independent primary schools in the Greater Manchester area.

GEMS has four core values that are the foundation of all educational programmes. These Core Values are unique to GEMS, and are part of the planned curriculum, woven into the very fabric of school life from as early as Nursery. They are intrinsic to everything we do at Clevelands:

  • World citizenship: empowering students with a global and local perspective by developing their awareness of different cultures and countries.
  • Universal values: accepting we are all different; recognising we are all the same.
  • Leadership: developing each student’s individuality and discovering their potential.
  • Forward thinking: developing skills for the future.
