Year Three have been learning about computer programming using PROBOT cars.

They were able to program their cars to move forwards, backwards and to turn through 90/180/270 degrees. They started by giving single commands to the car and gradually progressed to multiple commands in order to reach a particular square on their grid mat.

Five members of Year Four went to St. Joseph's RC High School last night to compete in the first of two finals. They completed three tasks, which were Floor Exercise, Body Management and Vaulting.

Last week's assembly ensured all our pupils were ready, willing and able to take part in the RSPB's annual bird watching event. Everyone in the UK was invited to sit and watch the birds in their garden for one hour at the weekend to count how many of each type of bird you see and send the information to the RSPB via their website. All the data the public collect is used in their work to gauge the health of birds and wildlife in our country.

All the children enjoyed learning to use the wire snips, and connected a motor, switch and battery so that they have a basic understanding of the project ahead.

The next step is to learn about gearing mechanisms so that their motor can drive a model carousel.

Year One history topic this term is ‘The Great fire of London'.

The children learned that in 1666 a fire started in a bakery in Pudding Lane. The fire spread very quickly because the houses were made of wood and stood very close together.
