What a wonderful afternoon of chess we had at Clevelands yesterday as we welcomed six local schools to one of the largest League Tournaments that has been held in Bolton. Just short of 100 children silently settled down to play chess, in two hotly contested divisions, with a record 24 children representing Clevelands. All the children play two matches on the night.
Our Girls’ team continue to fly the flag for school with their excellent performances. There were notable wins for one of our Year Six girl's who collected a medal for her double success on the night. The A team played some brave chess and we had a further two Year Six pupils who were medal winners for their two wins.
The B team were outstanding and for the fifth tournament in a row they were Divisional winners. One more tournament to go and they could end up as the winners for the year.
The whole event was a great success and massive thanks must go out to the parents who were so generous with their donations and time, in providing cakes and biscuits for the children. We are establishing ourselves as the favourite away destination for the other schools!
The event was started with our Head Girl and Head Boy delivering their own welcome speech, which was amazing, and ended with 8 children collecting medals and the B team winning the Team trophy. Another excellent night for Clevelands!
